The school, which is licensed by the State of Connecticut's Office of Early Childhood, provides a safe, warm, and nurturing environment for children ages 3 to 5 years old.
The first few years of a child's life are extremely important for future development. It is during this time children learn about themselves and the world around them. To that end, students enjoy both structured and unstructured play periods, thus giving the children a sense of both order and time, while still allowing them the freedom to make choices and self-direct.
The curriculum covers all aspects of kindergarten readiness including the development of large motor skills (including large blocks, vehicles, balance beam, parachute) and small motor skills (puzzles, blocks, string beading, scissor use, etc.). Prospect Nursery School (PNS) helps to develop letter, number, color and shape recognition, opposites and sequencing, reading readiness, and much more, with the use of alphabet builders, computers, books, and teacher-directed games.
PNS helps to develop the social behaviors necessary for children to succeed in a classroom setting. Skills such as listening, following rules, sharing, and taking turns are fostered during our rug time each day where we discuss the calendar, weather, and read stories. To enhance the child's speaking skills, we have monthly show-and-tell and bi-weekly visits to our local library.
